General Behaviour Guidelines

Al Manahil Private School aims to provide its students with an excellent education in the medium of English while respecting all nationalities, cultures and religions. Students are encouraged to develop personal responsibility and tolerance of diversity, and both students and staff are encouraged to continue to develop individual skills to a high level.
Students are expected to:
- Demonstrate positive attitudes towards learning
- Demonstrate personal values and respect for the values of others
- Demonstrate commitment to the community
- Observe the school rules
The Form Tutor is required to ensure that all their students understand and accept the school rules as written down in their Student handbooks.
Basic school rules are listed here. It is impossible to list everything. Students are expected to display common sense and courtesy, and to respond positively to the school’s expectations of them.
The student must:
- Attend school and lessons regularly and punctually and have correct equipment and books
- Make a genuine attempt to complete all homework and class assignments punctually to the best of his or her ability
- Assist the progress of all by listening carefully, following instructions, making positive contributions, and helping where possible
General Appearance
The student’s appearance, like the student’s behaviour, should contribute to a positive image of the school community. In case of doubt the Principal or his or her Assistant will take the final decision, and inappropriately dressed students may be sent home. This is particularly important and Form Tutors are required to set good dress standards with their form groups and Subject Teachers are required to send inappropriately dressed students to the Principal’s or his or her Assistant’s Office.
Physical Education (P.E)
In addition to the Physical Education Kit, a towel should also be brought. Although the P.E Department will provide a box for valuables during P.E, responsibility for the safety of private possessions is ultimately the student’s.
Prohibited Items
- Chewing gum is banned at all times on school premises and during routine school activities. Students who are found chewing gum will be asked to dispose of it.
- Alcohol, drugs and non-prescribed medication, weapons, fireworks and other potentially dangerous items. There is a mandatory fixed term suspension for offenders.
- Cigarettes and tobacco products, matches and cigarette lighters. Smoking is strictly banned on the school premises. There is a mandatory fixed term suspension for offenders.
Mobile Phones and Walkman StereosMobile phones are strictly prohibited in the school premises. For teachers these should not be taken to lessons. Personal music systems may not be played at any time during the school day for Health and safety reasons.
Care of Property
Students are responsible for their own property, and should not bring valuable items to school. Students should respect the property of others and must take care of their school books and of all school property. Writing on or defacing books, lockers, walls, displays, furniture etc. will be regarded as vandalism and punished accordingly.
Language
We recognise the importance of a student’s mother tongue. However, English is the school’s common language and we require students to use English during the normal school day and on all school trips and events. While this policy is flexible to allow for our ESL students, students who persistently refuse to use English will be in breach of school rules. All staff are required to model this policy at all times.
- If a pupil is found violating school rules damaging school property or misbehaving with any other pupil or teacher, he/she will be suspended immediately for a week. If the offence is repeated for the second time he/she will be suspended for two weeks, after two warnings the pupil will be expelled from the school.
- Cost of damage of school property will be borne by the parents
- Children misbehaving in the bus and not conforming to the bus rules will not be allowed to use the school bus.
GENERAL RULES
Pupils are answerable to the school authorities for their conduct both in the school as well as in the school buses.
Pupils may not take part in any public show or competitions during the term, unless any such activity is approved by the Principal.
Pupils must participate in all school activities unless excused by the Principal on a written request from the parent/guardian.
Pupils are requested to bring with them just enough money to take care of the days needs. Should it be necessary to carry a large sum, this should be deposited in the school office, immediately upon the arrival in the school.
The school will not be responsible for any money lost from a pupil’s possession.
No collection or distribution for any purpose, whatsoever is to be started without the permission of the Principal.
No fine can be imposed or waived without the permission of the Principal.
Any damage to the school property by a pupil should be reported immediately to the Class Teacher or the School Office.
The cost of the repairs will be borne by the pupil involved and then he/she will be suspended for one week.
Pupils must bring the written intimations from their parents to the circulars or notes sent by the School, within two days of their dispatch or by the date specified in the circular.
Pupils must participate in excursion; Inter-school competitions , etc. once their names have been submitted and a pupil is absent from the cause , he/she will have to bear whatever expenses the school may have paid his/her behalf.
Pupils and parents must not give individual gifts to any staff members. Of desired, a handmade card may be given as a token of appreciation.
Speaking English at all times is enforced in the school. This applies to the campus and the school buses
Denomination of the School
The school is open to all denominations without discrimination of class, caste or creed. However, in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Education, the teaching of Islamiyat/Moral Science is included in the syllabus.
Medium of Instruction
The medium of instruction is English. Arabic is the second major language. Additional languages taught are Urdu, Hindi, French , Bengali .

ADMISSION AND WITHDRAWLS
DISCIPLINE
For the efficient functioning of the school the following rules must be followed:
- Pupils must be courteous to the teachers , office staff , parents , visitors , peons , drivers and fellow students of the school
Pupils should observe silence and maintain order during assembly and other activities
Pupils should not run about and shout in the school building during study hours
Pupils are expected to keep the building clean. Waste papers or litter should be disposed off properly
Care must be taken for all School property. Pupils should not write on furniture or walls.
Vandalism is a serious crime
The school is not responsible for personal articles lost by pupils during the school hours.
Articles found and lost should be reported in the office.
CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR
Pupils are expected to keep their classroom appropriate at all times givingdue attention to the soft boards and other classroom equipments. Pupils returning from break, laboratories, etc should return to their classrooms quietly, and be seated immediately and get ready for the next session.
Pupils are not permitted to leave the classroom during their class sessions.
All personal articles (books, games, bottles, boxes, etc.) should be clearly marked with the owner’s name.
Care must be taken for desks, chairs and other materials. They should be kept neat and clean.
At no times should the teacher’s desk or cupboard be used without permission.
Pupils are not allowed to chew gums or consume eatables during classes, whether inside or outside the classroom.
Pupils coming to school on their own vehicles are expected to be in school ten minutes before school timings. Late comers will be excused only if a solid reason is stated in a note from the parent/guardian and sent to the school with the child. Habitual latecomers will be sent home.
FEES
Payments should be made by two instalments by the start of each term,
RENEWAL OF VISA/LETTERS OF RECCOMENDATION, ETC.
Any letter such as renewal of visa, school leaving certificate, recommendation letters, etc. will be issued during the summer holidays. In case of urgency, the school will intimate the day for the issue of any such paper.
AUDIO-VISUAL
Audio-Visual Aids are available to all pupils for listening skills & other such activities. Rules for the use and care of the equipment must be observed under the supervision of the subject teacher.
FIELD TRIP
To facilitate the school curriculum, field trips for a day or less are planned for the pupils throughout the year.
EXAMINATION RULES
Pupils should not keep anything in the desks.
Silence must be maintained in the classrooms throughout the examination.
Pupils are not allowed to carry any material other than the stationary required.
If a pupil is found cheating in any test or examination, no marks will be given for that paper.
Regular school timing must be followed on examination days unless a school notice/circular states otherwise.
Pupils absent during the examination days without permission will be marked absent in the exam.
Pupils who are absent due to illness will be examined later at the discretion of the principal, upon presentation of a medical certificate.
There will be no examinations for the infant school. They will have unit tests.
EXAMINATIONS AND PROMOTIONS
For the pupils from KG 1 to Grade 4 , report cards are sent home thrice a year, i.e. in November , March and June. The decision of the Principal regarding the promotion will be final.
HOMEWORK
In K.G very little homework is given to the pupils. Most of the work given to these students is activity based. In the Junior School the Class Teacher sees to an even distribution of homework assigned to them in every class.
All pupils are expected to work independently, Parents/Guardians should help only if needed. If a pupil fails to submit assignments on time or fails to bring books according to the timetable he/she will be suspended from the school after three warnings.
PRIVATE TUITIONS
Pupils are discouraged to take private tuitions. In special cases if private coaching is necessary then parents must approach the principal. A teacher cannot tutor any child of the school except with special permission from the Principal. Any cases of not conforming to the school policy in this matter will be handled strictly.
LEAVE
The Principal must be notified immediately of the absence from the school due to illness either by telephone or a written application. In case of four or more days of absence due to any infectious disease, a medical certificate is essential. Leave for any other purpose besides illness, will be limited to one day only. If a pupil wants to be absent for reasons other than physical ailment, parents should notify the school in advance. The school reserves its right to refuse the leave, if the trip demands excessive period or if it occurs at an inappropriate time of the year e.g. during the exams.
MEDICAL INSPECTION
All pupils undergo the medical inspection arranged by the School on weekly basis. Any medical recommendations arising from these must be followed. During epidemics in the city, all pupils must be vaccinated privately , or inform the school nurse , for the required service.
SICKNESS AND ACCIDENTS
Any sickness or accident must be reported to the office immediately. Minor ailments will be attended to by the school nurse. Pupils will be sent home if feeling acute discomfort, after notifying parents/guardian. In case of a major accident or serious emergency, the pupil will be taken to the hospital immediately and the parent/guardian will be informed without delay.
SPORTS
Sports day is held annually and the whole school can be seen in the sports spirit.
A healthy spirit of competition is encouraged between the houses in all fields of school activity
The objective of the house system is to inculcate in the pupils a sense of collective responsibility and solidarity and at the same time to enkindle and develop the social qualities and talent in every child.
It is the house system that channelizes the discipline in the school through curricular and co-curricular activities and directs the energies and talents of our pupils.

HOUSE CAPTAINS
School has four houses and four captains are elected by the members of their respective houses. Their main duty is to organize the various activities for their houses and inculcate the game spirit in their members.
PREFECTS
Pupils of final year plus other office-bearers are appointed as prefects. They are responsible for maintaining the discipline in the school. They report unusual cases of irresponsible behavior to the Class Teacher or to the Principal directly.
DISCIPLINE HEAD
With the co-operation of the house captains and prefects, discipline is maintained in the school.
SPECIAL NOTE TO PARENT/GUARDIAN
Parents or guardians are expected to co-operate with the school authorities in enforcing discipline in the premises. They must also see to it that their children prepare their work and take active interest in the activities of the school. Parents or guardians are also requested to mention the nature of matter when making an appointment with the Principal or teaching staff. In emergencies parents may contact pupils during school hours with the permission of the Principal. No mobile phones are allowed at any condition.
